Networking through Twitter and Ning for several years now has showed me the gaps in my teaching background, and motivated me last winter to continue my education. If you're planning on getting into social networking for professional development, and especially if you are thinking of trying to harness some of the creative potential of new media and networking for your teaching, I'll be more than happy to be a sounding board.

I run a tech advice blog called Ask Auntie Web, initially started for the teachers' association In Munich, where I used to live. I also teach workshops for teachers who are starting out using technology to supplement and extend their teaching. If there is anything I can do for you, get in touch here or on Twitter.

The technical challenges of going online in class at university

I've decided to stop using handouts and worksheets completely (though I do use cards and pictures), and have replaced them with a class wiki that I prime with materials and tasks. Students have their own pages to keep their notes on, and can access all materials at any time. I'm not dispensing with a syllabus, or chucking out materials, it's just that we now have a great deal of flexibility to go materials-light, or use existing materials, or create new ones at the drop of a hat, depending…

My 60 favorite online tools for teaching adults

These are the free online tools I recently shared as my favorites at a teacher training seminar. What I like about them is that they are simple to use, very effective for special purpose, and you can share the links to the files your students and you produce easily by email or class wiki/ning/blog.
